June 6, 2010

Posted by djw209 on June 7, 2010

This weekend it was supposed to rain, so we couldn’t do the sanding and painting of some furniture like we wanted (life without having a garage sucks in times like this).  So instead we decided to get our garden planted. Danny already planted 1 row of string beans the week before we headed down to PA. So this weekend we planted 22 tomato plants, 14 bell pepper plants, 4 jalapeno plants and I sowed basil seeds between the first 10 tomato plants (yes all those plants fit in 1 row, and there are about 18 inches between each tomato plant – this garden is HUGE!!). In the picture below, you will see my father in law’s garden – we have 2 rows in that garden. So he graciously gave us 2 rows to plant some produce, and he plants pumpkins, zucchini, summer squash, tons of corn, gourds and more stuff that I forget.

See the stake with an orange flag on it? To the right is where we planted everything over the weekend.

I can’t wait for later this summer – we plan on making lots of sauce with the tomatoes. Probably some salsa and whatever else we can find. I am also craving my FAVORITE summer dinner – BLT’s with corn on the cob. The bacon we’ll buy from our grass-fed farmer friends in Maine, the lettuce will come from my husband’s grandparent’s garden, tomatoes from our garden and the corn from my father in law! So yummy!!
